The Swampland Man
The Swampland Man called "Pantaneiro" received
from natives' a lot of influence and it maintains their way
of living practically unaffected in the last 200 years. In
the XVIII century the pioneers from São Paulo came
to search gold. After the Paraguay War the great cattle farms
appeared. With the arrival of the Brazilian northwest railroad
in 1914 new habits were incorporate. The distance and the
difficult access to these farms made the swampland man get
used the isolation and the solitude as a manifest of the cooperation
feeling in the work of the cattle or in the typical festivities
among the farms. Living in a really isolated area, with inundations,
attack of wild animals, and transport problems, the pantaneiro,
cattle farmer, cowboy or fisherman, maintains love, respect
and attachment to this earth.
